WASTE & RECYCLING
Our waste goes to one of three different places to be recycled: recycling (for cardboard, glass and cans), RDF (refuse-derived fuels) and to MRF (materials recycling facility) which separates materials and processes them for further usage.
OXFORD FOOD BANK
The Oxford Food Bank will be on site at the Big Feastival for the 5th year running, collecting any surplus fruit, vegetables, drinks, dairy and bakery products from participating traders and stages run by the festival team, in order to then distribute to those in need after the event.
PLASTIC STRAW BAN
We banned the use of plastic straws from 2018 onwards. In efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastics, we will be providing alternatives such as biodegradable paper straws. We encourage visitors to bring their own reusable non-glass bottles or purchase one on site (available from our merchandise stand) and make use of the water refill stations on site. We are working on a longer term plan regarding plastics and how we can become even more sustainable.
OUR ‘LEAVE NO TRACE’ POLICY
The Big Feastival operates a Leave No Trace policy to keep the farm as pristine as possible and preserve the environment. This policy means that every single item dropped is picked up – please do your bit to help by using the bins and taking larger items home with you.
NO OVERNIGHT POWER WASTAGE
We will have a dedicated power team on call to ensure that generators are switched off overnight to reduce our emissions. We’ll be undertaking new surveys this year to see how we can reduce our fuel usage even further for future festivals.
We encourage as many of our guests as possible to use greener transport options such as public transport, coach services, car-sharing and arriving by foot. Kingham train station is just a 3 minute walk away from the festival so it couldn’t be simpler!
CAMPSITE RECYCLING POLICY
The Big Feastival is an organic farm when the festival is not on. We look to build upon these credentials by improving our site wide recycling and environmental impact each year. Feastival looks to recycle and divert from landfill over 90% of the rubbish-generated onsite. We did not send any rubbish to landfill in 2017 or 2018. We kindly ask our campers to carefully consider what they pack with them, ensure they don't leave anything behind, to use the correct recycling points and to avoid bringing glass onto the farm.
Our Feastival campers will receive two bin bags on arrival, one for general rubbish and a recycling one. If you run out of bin bags, we will have extra ones attached to waste pens for your use. Please aim to leave your camping area as you found it, this means taking everything home with you, putting your waste in the appropriate bin bags and disposing them in the designated waste areas provided, as even though it may be your home for the weekend - it’s home for a number of animals for the rest of the year. Our designated waste areas will be separated out into general waste and recyclables, we ask that you please make a conscious effort to use the correct bins.
Quenching thirst’s over The Big Feastival weekend will be Hydrate, Planet Conscious Pure Water. Their water cartons are at least 62% plant based material, wholly recyclable and safely reusable, making them the perfect alternative to single use plastic bottles. As well as this, the cartons are lightweight, transport efficient and can preserve the water at ambient temperatures without the need for preservatives or refrigeration.
